Galerie Papillon

Galerie Papillon is renowned for its discerning programming and distinctive editorial approach. It brings together international artists who share a certain sensitivity, a sense of poetry and irony, boldness, and sometimes even nonconformity.

The gallery offers them a substantial exhibition space in its main 250 m² courtyard space, located in the Marais, just steps from the Centre Pompidou. On the first floor, more intimate installations are presented in a space closer in scale to a collector’s apartment.

Founded in 1989 by Claudine Papillon, the gallery has a historical relationship with artists who have become internationally recognized, such as Sigmar Polke, Dieter Roth, Michael Craig-Martin, as well as Hreinn Friðfinnsson and Erik Dietman, whose Estates the gallery now represents.

Since 2007, Marion Papillon has been a partner and now directs the gallery, continuing to prioritize long-term relationships with artists. Together, they continually expand the team with the ambition of supporting both French and international artists, whether emerging, mid-career, or established.

The gallery’s role extends beyond its physical walls. Marion Papillon founded Paris Galerie Weekend in 2014. She also served as president of the Professional Committee of Art Galleries from 2020 to 2025, after having been vice-president from 2014 to 2019.

Marion and Claudine Papillon give Galerie Papillon its identity: two generations with complementary visions, sharing the same values and a common commitment—to promote artists and their work on the international art stage, and to support contemporary creation in all its richness and diversity.
