Un Dimanche à la galerie 2021
7th edition I Sunday, November 7, 2021
07 Nov. 2021
With the momentum of the fall cultural season and the excitement of the many fall art fairs in Paris and elsewhere, the Comité professionnel des galeries d’art (CPGA) would like to focus on gallery programming by organizing its annual Sunday at the Gallery event on November 7.
A joint opening day for art galleries throughout France, the 7th edition of A Sunday at the Gallery pursues the initial objective of reaching a new audience, – or one that is too rarely present in galleries; of reporting on the diversity of artistic proposals from galleries in France; and of raising awareness of the indispensable role of the gallery owner in the promotion of artists’ work.
This enlarged public is in particular the one who, eager for contact with the works of art and the emotions they arouse, went to the galleries during the periods when the museums were closed. Through this event, the CPGA wants to remind that galleries contribute all year round to the French cultural offer, and are complementary to museums and art centers.
This 2021 edition will be relayed for the first time directly on the new website of the Professional Committee of Art Galleries launched for the occasion, through a digital map of participating galleries. Wishing to return to the festive character of this Unity Sunday, and to attract the greatest number, the galleries have been invited to organize a special moment (meeting with an artist, performance, snack, etc.) in compliance with health measures.
Testifying to the dynamism of French galleries, A Sunday at the Gallery had mobilized last year 160 CPGA galleries in September 2021 in 20 cities in 10 regions. This exceptional participation already testified, between two confinements, to the resolutely optimistic message of the galleries alongside the artists they represent; thousands of visitors had responded to the invitation.
The event resonates with the Paris Gallery Weekend now spearheaded by CPGA and to be held over four days in May 2022.
