29 Nov. 2022
As part of its efforts to promote the French art scene internationally, the Professional Committee of Art Galleries has joined forces with the Villa Albertine to launch the Etant donnés 2022 Prize, awarded to a living artist active on the French art scene and exhibiting at the Art Basel Miami Beach contemporary art fair.
This prize aims to support contemporary creation and to increase the diffusion of the French art scene internationally.
The Etant donnés prize awards the winning artist the sum of $15,000 (approximately €15,200), to be shared equally with the exhibiting gallery. Art Basel will not be involved in the selection process.
The prize is awarded by an international jury composed of five leading personnalities from the art world :
Paula Aisemberg, Artistic director of the Emerige Group & president of Trampoline
Leon Amitai, collector
Cathleen Chaffee, chief curator of the Buffalo Art AKG Museum
Stéphanie Seidel, curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Miami
Catherine Petitgas, art historian, philanthropist and collector
International galleries participating in Art Basel Miami Beach 2022 and exhibiting at least one work by an artist from the French art scene were invited to apply. Following this call for applications, the CPGA and Villa Albertine have selected a list of 17 artists and 14 galleries to compete this year.
On the morning of November 29, the jury will visit the booths of the candidate galleries before deliberating. The names of the winning artist and gallery will be announced the same day at an award ceremony to be held at the Botanical Garden in Miami.
